The Song We Picked

Honey

  • MEET KATIE KUFFEL

A local Seattle treasure for over a decade, her bold, piano-driven sound blends blues, jazz, and folk with sharp wit and raw emotion. Her music feels rich, warm, layered, and deeply resonant, creating an instant connection with listeners - with enough bite to keep you coming back for more.

  • WHY THIS SONG AND OUR CHOCOLATE BELONG TOGETHER

This song has such a warmth to it. The bass and the warm tones of the rhodes piano and create a strong foundation for the song. Then, with that foundation to stand on, Katie’s voice comes in as this soft and flowing high-end that beautifully counterbalance the low end. Add the mention of honey in the lyrics and this song becomes the perfect pairing for our Colombian bar. The Colombian bar is rich, warm, and cozy but light and surprisingly sweet for dark chocolate. It’s also strong enough to be the core chocolate for all our ingratiated bars. Eating this bar while listening to this song is like being wrapped up in a big cozy blanket.  (Note our bar does not actually have honey in it)

The Music:

We know, we know—you want to dive into the chocolate first. But we suggest starting with the music.

  • First, scroll back up and click the Spotify link we provided. The song is also available on Apple Music.

  • Treat yourself! Put on some headphones. Don’t listen to the song through your phone’s speakers. Artists put so much work into the mix—the sound of the guitars, the placement of the drums, how the vocals dance with the harmonies. With headphones, you’ll be able to hear all those beautiful subtleties. And trust us—Katie has packed her music with endless details that elevate every note.

  • Her voice is amazing, isn’t it?! Okay, now for your chocolate…

The Chocolate:

  • Just like you took your time with the music, take your time with the chocolate.

  • Start by breaking off a small piece from the corner and chewing it. This is just to familiarize your palate with the flavor. It’s okay to swallow this part quickly—think of it like tuning your instrument.

  • Now take another small bite, but this time, let it melt. Slow down. Let the chocolate move around your palate.

  • This chocolate bar is rich and warm, with notes of fudge, stone fruit, and honey. It’s sweet. It’s smooth. It’s familiar and classic.

  • All of these reasons are why we think it pairs perfectly with Katie’s music—especially the song Honey. The true mark of a great song is when it feels familiar, but you can’t quite pinpoint why. Honey feels like it’s been your favorite song for years. It’s catchy. It’s rich. It’s sweet—just like our bar.

  • Now go explore more of Katie’s music, and keep indulging in the rest of your chocolate bar.

How to pair

Discover our other Legato Artists!

Katie’s music is fantastic. And each of our chocolate bars comes with a different artist/song to pair with. Each of these artists are (in our minds) Seattle’s best/top talents that we think should be household names. We don’t want to gatekeep their music, so you can listen to each song we pair with below. Once you hear the song and you can’t resist trying the chocolate pairing, you can get all the bars at our Online store.

Lindstrom & The Limit w/ our Espresso Bar

The Limit is one of Seattle’s funkiest, grooviest, most rocking bands. Their fat horn lines, wild vocals and energetic music will have you up and dancing one minute - and then their heartbreaking folk tunes will have you all in your feels the next. The song we’ve paired with our espresso bar is their new single, Neptune. Support this stellar queer/latinx lead band.

Olella w/ our Sea Salt Bar

Trained as a classical cellist since the age of nine, the Seattle musician merges her technical string background with authoritative vocals and live-looping. Described as “really outstanding” by NPR Music’s Bob Boilen and “so tastefully done” by Michelle Zauner (a.k.a. Japanese Breakfast), Ollella blends the acoustic with the contemporary, folk with pop, and tenacity with softness, pulling on influences such as Feist, Cat Power, and Sylvan Esso.

”Ollella” is pronounced oh-lel-uh.

Young-Chhaylee w/ our Peruvian Bar

Young-Chhaylee is a singer/songwriter of the PNW. Growing up on the south side of Everett, WA, and being a first-generation Cambodian-American has shaped the experience that he speaks on. His writing, style, and groove are pieces taken from John Mayer, J. Cole, Otis Redding, and D'Angelo. His voice is powerful yet flutters. Simultaneously strong and vulnerable.

The Noble Manes w/ our Nib Crunch Bar

The Noble Manes is a mostly accidental confluence of rock, psychedelic rock, and fusion, and The Noble Manes don’t even know what that means. They like deep grooves in fun time signatures and heavy lyrical content. “We make music for your next existential crisis.”

Most of our bars, we suggest eating slowly and letting the chocolate melt on your tongue. This bar, we suggest you bite down! The nibs make a great crunch, and it’s a noisy bar. That’s why we picked our favorite loud band from Seattle to pair with.
